First of all, a big thumbs up to amazon and ebags for the quick shipping, estimate said 5 days, I received it in 2. I've got a pretty good sized collection of Timbuk2 bags, and must say the Hemlock(small) is my new go-to bag. I'm 5'7 and the small feels just right. Timbuk2 designs cyclist-centric bags, but the Hemlock works as a hiking, or a daypack as well.
Pros:
Very good design and construction, no crooked stitching here.
Cool roll-top design sets it apart from standard packs.
Cavernous main storage pocket can carry a lot of clothing, books, gadgets and pretty much whatever you want, at which point you can lock everything down with the side-cinching straps.
Swing around laptop access, secret pocket in the back
Cons:
I don't think it's completely water-sealed as is par with nylon bags, but who am I kidding i'm not gonna be submersing it in the ocean or anything like that.
Conclusion:
I'm diggin' my Hemlock Backpack! :)
One thing to note is that this bag doesn't come with a sternum-strap, but I emailed Timbuk2 and they were glad to send me one, so in my opinion they get a +bonus star
Edit: I took this bag with me to CES 2012 in Las Vegas, and was able to carry everything I needed for the 4 day event: extra clothing, camera, laptop, phone, ipod, and also accomodate all the free swag one usually acquires from trade shows of the like. I was so happy with the purchase I made it a priority to thank the Timbuk2 employees exhibiting at the convention.

Overall this bag is the most bang for you're buck. I purchased the medium sized blue backpack. It is very good looking and lightweight. As soon as it arrived I biked 4 miles to the grocery store in the rain with it. In the bag I managed to fit: 1 gallon of milk, 1 sac of potatoes, 1 6-pack of beer, 4 canned goods, 1 bag of coffee, 24 eggs, lots of fruits and vegetables, some bread, 1 frozen pizza, 1 liter of soda, 1 jug of olive oil, 3 big bottles of soap, shampoo, and conditioner AND there was still room to spare. I was afraid it would be too heavy to bike home with but once I put it on my back it didn't feel remotely heavy at all. Also, my groceries were still cool and dry when I got home.
In addition, I took it out camping in the desert for the weekend and was amazed at how well it held up. This bag easily fits 1 2-person tent, 2 sleeping bags, a sleeping pad, 2 gallons of water, plenty of food and cooking supplies, flashlights, first aid kit, change of clothes, toilet paper, etc. This may sound weird but this bag appears to be dirt repellent too! This bag was thrown around in the dirt and mud for 3 days, and when I got home I wiped it off with my hands and it looked practically brand new again! So there you have it, $80 gets you a pretty darn good bag that can certainly get the job done. Oh and I love the bottle opener on the strap too, since I can't use a lighter as a bottle opener, this makes for a quick and easy way to open a beer!

I wish the laptop compartment accododated slightly larger laptops. I just so managed to fit my 17 incher in it with my extended battery detached, but at the airport security check, if you have a lot in the main compartment,it can be a bit difficult to squeeze a large laptop back inside.
I love the side zipper, the laptop compartment is well padded, and the bag is quite expendable lengthwise, which is why I bought it in the first place. It is designed like a sack, with straight sides, so it is easy to fit bulky items in it. I would prefer it to be a bit wider in diameter over-all, but it being so slim ensures it will nev sag or look too large, which is quite important for carry-on luggage. Also, it fits inside plane overhead compartments lengthwise, which is awesome.
One big imporovement would be to add a strap to secure the front pocket. It is only staying closed with velcro, and is because of this difficult to overfill. I put my passport, cell and wallet in there, so it would be nice to be able to close it ina. More secure way. There are zipered compartments inside the front pocket, though, they are just not terribly roomy.
Still, I am very happy with this bag. I looked for a long time for something like this, and believe the design is absolutely unique.
